The best TradingView indicators for ranging (sideways) crypto markets

Ranging markets punish trend-following tools and reward oscillators. When ADX is below 20 and price is chopping between identifiable highs and lows, you need indicators that tell you where the range boundaries are and when momentum is exhausted at those extremes — not tools that keep flipping you in and out of a nonexistent trend.

RSI (Relative Strength Index) on TradingView — BTCUSDT 1h

    RSI (Relative Strength Index)

    momentumBuilt-in

In a defined range, RSI's overbought and oversold levels actually work as intended — price reaching 70 near range resistance or 30 near range support gives high-quality fade setups.

Bollinger Bands on TradingView — BTCUSDT 15m

    Bollinger Bands

    volatilityBuilt-in

Bollinger Band tags at the upper and lower rails define the statistical edges of the range. A close back inside after a band tag is a clean mean-reversion trigger.

Stochastic on TradingView — BTCUSDT 5m

    Stochastic

    momentumBuilt-in

Stochastic's two-line crossover near the extreme zones (above 80 or below 20) is the fastest oscillator reversal signal at range boundaries — faster than RSI and built for this environment.

VWAP on TradingView — BTCUSDT 1m

    VWAP

    volumeBuilt-in

In a range, VWAP anchors near the midpoint and acts as a daily magnet. Trades away from VWAP tend to revert toward it — the centerline becomes the target, not a stop.

Keltner Channels on TradingView — BTCUSDT 1h

    Keltner Channels

    volatilityBuilt-in

When Bollinger Bands contract inside Keltner Channels, a squeeze is loading. In a range, this signals the end of the sideways phase — the Squeeze Momentum histogram tells you which way the breakout is building before it happens.

Pivot Points on TradingView — BTCUSDT 5m

    Pivot Points

    structureBuilt-in

Pivot Points provide the mechanical S/R levels that define most intraday ranges. The main Pivot, S1 and R1 are where ranging crypto pairs reverse most frequently during the session.

ADX (Average Directional Index) on TradingView — BTCUSDT 1h

    ADX (Average Directional Index)

    trendBuilt-in

Use ADX as the regime gate, not a signal: ADX below 20 confirms you're in a range and oscillator signals are valid. Once ADX rises above 25, the range is ending — switch tools.
